Licensing
Trademark Usage
California Baptist University maintains a licensing agreement with Affinity Licensing, who manages the licensing process on behalf of CBU and assists with matters of brand management, usage, legality and enforcement.
Use of CBU’s trademarks without permission from the Marketing and Communication (M&C) department or a license from Affinity Licensing is strictly prohibited.
Individuals and Businesses
Individuals, vendors, retail or e-commerce businesses that wish to sell products with CBU’s name, likeness or trademarks to consumers—will need to obtain a license. If not licensed, the individual or business will need to compete the licensing process through CBU’s official partner, Affinity Licensing.
For non-commercial purposes, permission for logo and trademark usage is still needed from CBU’s M&C department.
Students, Faculty, and Staff
If ordering promotional items with any CBU university name, logos or trademarks–an approved, licensed vendor must be used. A list of all approved vendors can be found on the Affinity Licensing website. If a preferred vendor is desired, approval will be needed from CBU M&C and the vendor must complete the licensing process through CBU’s official partner, Affinity Licensing.
Student organizations and clubs who wish to use university logos or trademarks must seek permission through CBU’s M&C division.
1. Follow university and athletics logo guidelines.
2. Do not combine multiple lock ups
Limit the use of any CBU Athletics logos to one logo, per placement, per garment. If there is a specific need to use multiple logos to satisfy brand guidelines, consider alternate placements on the garment.
Combining multiple logos to create a single, larger lock up is not permitted unless it’s been pre-designed or pre-approved by the Department of Marketing and Communication.
If it’s necessary to include multiple logos, separate them to their own locations.
3. Think and design holistically
When creating a capsule / collection of similar merchandise, keep the size of the CBU lettermark consistent (1X).
The length / width of the sport name should never exceed 1.3X the width of the CBU lettermark. In the illustration below, the words “BASKETBALL” and “CROSS COUNTRY” have been proportionately reduced in size from their original lock ups, while “GOLF” retained its original size.
Keep the spacing between CBU lettermark and sport name consistent.
